The definition of ‘’place’’ is the location, space, or area.

For example:

-          I feel home at my own place

-          A place of house is close to school.

You also can use it as verb as to put.

-          I placed the books on my bureau.

Or something with the sports.

-          I placed  first of the running competition in 2011

I think ‘’ learn’’ means to something you will keep it in the mind. You can use that essential thing for the future. For example,  I learn ASL to communicate with people. or I learn Spanish words to keep it in my mind for future if I need to communicate with people who speak Spanish.  

If you learned something, you will understand better, for instance, you get the Spanish class, you get to know more about the culture. And later you go to Spain, and you understand why bullfight is very important there because you had learned about the culture.
